I just heard tonight that you can be pulled by the fuzz by having the standard (and uk standard) square front reg plate (11 x 8 inch), this can't be true.Has anyone else experienced/heard anything about this?

never heard that... thats what i have on the front of mine just now... and never had a problem. Like you say, most 3.5's come with it as standard. Mine are on with strong velcro so i can take them off if i ever need to though, without too much trouble. And for show plates.

I asked the DVLA rep at the 2008 motor show about this. His line was that, if the car is imported, and is designed to take a specific size of plate, you can legally fit that plate. We didn't get in to discussing legal font size etc. BUT if you fit the larger of the standard import sizes to the front (330mm x 203mm I think but I'd have to check) it will happily accommodate the full-size UK font. IMHO, it looks so much better than square or full width as it fits the "blanked" area of the front grille nicely (assuming you've got a Gen 3 etc. - I've no idea about the earlier Coupés). Bought mine from demonplates.com - very impressed. You can even add a Hyundai badge with the Euro stars on the left. Do that on a navy blue background with a navy blue border and it looks just peachy... :) Adding the Hyundai badge makes the legality questionable but I've had no problems and at least one MOT pass (at a main dealer) since I fitted it. I've got the same finish on my rear plate, too. (Apologies for the naff image - it's the only one I can find of the front with the plate and without 3ft of snow over it)
