My Gen 3.5 came with 17" wheels with 215/45 tyres. Although the handling is great on the open road, around town it does not cope well with poor road surfaces; the ride is very harsh. I have been considering putting on the 16" wheels fitted to many Gen3s/3.5s which carry the 205/55 tyres. Has anyone experienced both, and can offer any comment?

As ever mate it's a compromise - 16's will give you a slightly softer ride but you will lose some stability on heavy cornering due to a higher sidewall.

Sidewall on a 215/45 is 9.7cm, on a 205/55 it's 11.3cm.

To be honest I'd say the difference will be negligable and it's probably not worth spending the extra cash on another set of wheels. As the Coupes become more common perhaps see if someone else you know has one with the 16's? Or pop down to a meet at some point, I'm sure there'll be someone with 16's who'd happily take you for a quick drive.
