ok guys, i'll post this here if a mod could move it, my washers wern't working so i went to investicate, turns out there was a LOAD of gunk/crap in the mesh of the motor, so i decided to take some pics while cleaning it out and do a lil walkthrough for people!

first off, prop the car up, using which ever method you prefere, i just used some bricks, worked a treat,

so now what i did was remove to screws from the bottom part of the mud gaurd, this loosened it enough to pull like in the pic,



now if you look up behind the guard you will see the washer reserve, the motors are the to black circles as seen in pic below, the one nearest the drivers seat is for the back, so whichever you need to clean with a screwdriver, prop the motor out, comes off altogether, will only b hanginig on by the plug into it on the top, which you remove, and also the water feed pipe, if you have trouble removing this heat with boiling water.. and also be warned that whether is in the reserve will flow out and get you WET!!



this is the motor here, the big tube on the side is where all the gunk in the mesh will be, scrape out as much as you can, then using boiling water to allow you to get the rest if its not shifting, the water should run clear from the big one to the small tube on the side!! once clean repeat the process in reverse to put back and admire your hard work and splashing water!!!

one tip is to hold the indicator for a good long time after taking this all apart to allow the water to travel back up to the washers.

It's a bit easier on a Gen3. Instead of being under the car and risking a soaking, just remove the drivers side headlight and you get easy access to the motor.


Pull it off the washer bottle, which will proceed to empty it's guts all over the road. Disconnect the two pipes and the electrical connector. And inside the part which goes into the washer bottle will be a lot of gunk. Clear this out until you see some nice shiny mesh. Reconnect the hoses/electrical connector, push the motor back onto the side of the bottle. Fill up the screenwash and enjoy.

tried this today cleaned it out...still no joy...the noise aint going...its dead.

just wondering if anyone knows where i can get 1 of these from? halfrauds are looking at 42pound + whatever discount my mate can get...wondering if anyone knows anywhere cheaper?

no whirring? you need to test the motor on a 12v battery or power source, if it whirs you need to check the plug where it plugs into.. if that's outputting power.. your problem is with the tubing, if not the problem is with the wiring.

Just replaced mine on a Gen 3, courtesy of the information and advice in this post - Thanks Guys.!

Local dealer quoted Just over £120 to supply and fit, in the end I ordered from BCAP as per the previous post by Joff, took 4 days to arrive with me from overseas, 15 minutes to fit and cost well under £30 all in..

Still smiling..

great news man! :) i had same thing but ended up just cleaning em out and cost me nothing! hence i made the walkthrough! :) glad ya save a few quid! :D

Guys,

Thanks for the tips and photos here. My pump is knackered on my Gen3, garage quoted £95 to order and fix a new one. I decided to try and take mine off first, if I could do that I'd do it myself. It took me about 10 minutes, most of that was trying to locate the last bold on my head light (it's adjacent to the pointy bit of the light on the right by the way :lol: ). I'm going to order the pump now. Only problem I had was I sheared a bolt on the light, but it seems quite happy with just two holding it on!

Aw man, I love this place. My washers started dribbling yesterday. Thought they were empty - filled them - got a dribble. Came on here, 2 minutes and I've got a solution. Brilliant.

Cleaned out my gen 3 washer pump today by removing headlamp, now even the back washer works!

It was a gunk problem for me too last week, definitely the first thing to check! Can't believe how easy it was going through the headlight rather than under the car and removing the liner - glad I didn't do that, it was recommended on another post for Gen 1 or 2, glad also that I kept scrolling down! :)

guys i have a v6 gen 3 and both front and rear waasher jets have packed up, I removed and cleaned pump today but still no joy not even a buzz from the pump... any ideas guys?

Does the pump as seen in hutchys pic control both fron and rear jets as i dont have either?...thanks in advance

Hi people,
Like many Coupe owners, I have had trouble with front and rear washers from the first day I have had the car. I read all the advice on the forums and decided to check the problem by removing the headlight and checking it .
Dreading taking the light out because , knowing my luck, I will break wires, clips or trim so today, during a break in the rain, decided to give it a go.
Half an hour later, everything was back together and fully working. I couldn't believe how easy a job it was. And to think, a little bit of blocked mesh causes all the problems.
I now know things will be fine next time I have to clean the pump :) :) :)

Well ive taken my motor out and it was full of gunk but it appears to have burnt out as no whirring noise, i cant seem to find the right motor on ebay though anyone know where i can find one?
