Turbo/Supercharging - Worth it?

This is actually something I'm looking at doing in the near future,

You have to basically rule out supercharging because you can't pick up the parts anywhere so you would have to custom make a kit if you wanted to do it.

Now you can turbo them reasonably easily, but no, they are not worth it unless you are in love with your car and you don't care about spending money with no return if you ever sell it,

It will cost you up to ÂŁ3000 for a kit,

it will cost you a lot less to put a kit together but obviously it will be more hassle to find a turbo and to find a manifold to fit that turbo along with all the custom intercooler piping to go along with it and custom exhaust side piping,

I wouldn't want to try and fit a turbo myself unless I had access to a garage and a lovely set of tools as you will need to weld in oil feed and oil return lines and there are a lot of other little things that would be a pain unless you had the right tools.

You would also need either a piggyback ECU or a standalone ECU to get the turbo to work with engine both of which will need to be wired in one wire at a time and set up and tuned preferably on a dyno by a professional tuner, a piggyback will cost you probably up to ÂŁ400 but you could get a lot of used ones under that, A standalone is anywhere from ÂŁ900 and offers much better control over all the systems in the car.

So if you are interested in doing this you will need to budget rather a lot probably about ÂŁ2500 for the turbo, piping, intercooler, manifold, upgraded injectors, etc. Then budget ÂŁ600 for a piggyback and mapping, Then labour if you get a garage to fit the turbo kit will be at a guess ÂŁ400-900, As you have an auto you wont need a performance clutch so saved money there.

If you budget 4-5k overall you should be able to get it done, but being an aftermarket turbo kit don't expect reliability and expect to make adjustments, its possible once you get it set up right it will be very reliable but not straight away,

Sorry for the long post, PM me if you need anything else I am by no means an expert just planning on doing it myself :D
