Had an F2 in for an MOT in the garage next door to work today, and after looking at the engine, it looks identical to mine. So now I'm wondering, where does the extra 35-40bhp comes from? ECU?

lightened flywheel and cams I believe..
All 40bhp? Look at Duplemans tuning guide, these would only add to whp/throttle responsiveness, won't see 5 bhp from them.

air filter and exhaust too aparently

that said hyundai lied when they told us the gen 1 was 137bhp, so maybe they lied a little more with the f2 evo to give it the extra

also seems the F2 has no power gains only the F2 evo.

Air filter was the same as mine (origional one anyway, not the new one), didn't look at exhaust though. If 137bhp a lie, what was it?

speak to sharky at a meet and ask him.he helped to build the car.it was mostly cams, but he reckoned they could have got near 300bhp out of one but hyundai wouldnt let em use any biits except hyundai ones and the only hyundai bits were cams

Was an F2 evo (unless the evo badge was added onto an F2). If the parts are hyundai ones, are they taken from other models? Would I be able to loot them from a scrappy?
I'm still struggling to see how cams/pulleys gain 40bhp. I know they are essential to any serious tuning, but thought their main purpose was to improve throttle response, build revs faster, and increase the rev limit.
Is Sharky going to the Xmas meet?

iv just read your post again.it doesnt have 40 extra its got on average "late teens" extra-say 17-18bhp.it all comes from the cams though.they have a longer duration-they are the 1.8 cams into a 2.0

im correct.iv just spoken to sharky, who says it was just cams nothing else.1.8 cams in a 2.0 and the extra figure is around 18bhp the rest is just cosmetic

So Hyundai are lying about F2evo output too then? Lidls already mentioned the claimed 137bhp for an SE is too much, and the F2 evo's claimed at 175bhp. Lidl hasn't said what the actual power is, but it could well be that the F2evo isn't running that much more than 140bhp then?
And does that mean if I get cams from any Hyundai 1.8 engine, they'll fit straight in? And as I've already mentioned before, the pulleys on mine are marked up as 1.8 Lantra, is it just the cams, or are the pulleys used from the 1.8 too?

most of it is interchangeable-the coupe is basically a lantra
and yes about 140ish is the right figure

So Hyundai have overclaimed by 35bhp, I know most people exaggerate a bit to sell, but thats a huge amount. Especially when most of the competition at the time was rinning in the 170-200bhp range. So what is the SE running as standard? 120? Saxo VTS's have that!
Just in case I win big on the lottery tonigh, what are the parts Sharky says they wanted to put in to get 300bhp?

Someone got to give you moderators something to do. Thnks for the help.
Noticed something last night, that green/black gen2 i've put up in the modifed live pics has got a Mugen logo on it (check the shot from behind the car), has he just put the sticker on, or do mugen make parts for Hyundai engines?
Also can the Mitsubishi parts be brought and fitted, or were they just one offs for a prototype?

I know Mugen are Hondas in house tuning company, but why would a Hyundai be tuned by Honda?
Also not seen it yet, but spkoe on phone to local scrappy, and may have my hands on an F2-evo engine. No good as a direct replacement, as car had a front end smash that took out the pulleys at the bottom, and damaged the shaft at the bottom. The top should be ok to use though.
Firstly, to look at how do I know its an F2evo engine, not an F2?
Aside from the camshaft, is there anything else worth stripping off? Already decided to have throttle bodies, as going to attemt a DIY big bore TB.
Is the gearbox the same, or has it got the closer ratios? If not does anyone know of any close ratio boxes that exist. Don't care if I end up restricting my top speed, if I can get a better acceleration.

is the man himself the mighty sharky.be sure he's got time to chat to you on it first but if he's got spare time he'll tell you im sure.then let us know on here for reference.ask him about his easy payment scheme whilst your on.and wait for the laughter.

your a daring man to attempt diy big bore throttle body.i wouldnt
also i would say unless your doing intake manifold............dont bother with BBTB.you'll be lucky to see any gains without.and do a intake manifold spacer too for maximum gains

Thanks for all your help so far.
I've already got the standard TB, so if I can get on off the other engine, I an afford to screw it up attempting a BBTB. I know the gains are small, but I got the equipment at work to do it, and its alot cheaper than the ones I've found on the interweb.
Due to me being tight, and thanks to the recession, out of work for 5 monthes, followd by a 30% paycut just to get back into work, the ones on Shark racing aren't worth the cash, for the small gains offered.

thats a lot of common sense your talking there
on average expect a 2bhp gain from bbtb with no intake manifold-if that.so buying a BBTB for about 200 quid dont add up.but it is a specialist job boring throttle bodies and remember your butterfly gotta fit.good luck but watch you dont make it too big.then you'll still get a bottleneck other side of it.thats why people port and polish and you should-in theory-do intake manifold first.and with more air you gotta get it out-so exhaust manifold........list is endless
